Le Corton
The unique red Grand Cru on the
Côte de Beaune, the Bouchard Père & Fils
Le Corton comes from the piece of land bearing the same name
as the "Appellation" : Le Corton.
On the sunniest side of the Corton mountain, this stony land,
rich in clay and chalk, is blessed with all the qualities
the vine needs to produce concentrated, rich, magnificently
distinctive grapes. Guy de Maupassant, the great 19th century
poet, contributed to spreading its fame by calling it the
" roi des bons vivants " in one of his most famous
works : Bel ami.
The Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard (3,68 hectares)
is situated half way up the slope and produces wines with
a nose of red fruit (cherry, blackcurrant), spice and woody
notes which evolve in time towards aromas of truffle, leather
and moss.
This is nectar which fully justifies the use
of the typical Burgundy glass, very wide narrowing in at the
top. Sometimes, the glass is not wide enough for the size
of this wine !
Powerful, with great ageing potential, its noble origins will
come to the fore after 10 to 15 years.
